Whitehall City Schools offers students numerous summer academies, camps, and activities to help their developmental needs. Some of these programs are invite-only while others are open for registration. Please see our complete listing below of all the things that are available to students.
WCS KG-5 Summer Academy – WCS will offer an elementary summer learning academy from June 13 – July 14, located at Kae Avenue South. Students will be provided skill deficit instruction in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Services will include special education and English Learner services. Instructional time will run from 8:30 - 11:30, Monday - Thursday. (no school June 20 and July 4)
Rising Kinder Camp – WCS will offer a one-week camp for incoming kindergarten students from July 25 – July 29, located at Kae Avenue Elementary North. The focus will be introducing students to kindergarten classroom routines, fine motor skills, working with letters, numbers and counting, and making new friends! Instructional time will run from 8:30 - 11:30.
High School Graduation Academy – WCS will invite students who are credit deficient to participate in credit recovery options, June 13 – July 14 (no school June 20 (Juneteenth holiday) & July 4).
Middle School Band Academy – All incoming 6th grade students will have the opportunity to acclimate to the middle school through hands instrumental explorations and skill building. Band Academy will take place the week of June 13.
English Learner Academy – WCS will offer opportunities to help students more effectively speak utilizing vocabulary correctly along with survival strategies. EL Academy will take place June 6-9.
'Becoming Rams' Week
– All incoming 6th and 9th graders will be invited to take part in a hands-on and fun experience through PBL. 'Becoming Rams' Week will take place August 1-5.
EOC Academy – This program is for high school students who are in need of summer EOC testing in ELA and/or math. EOC Academy will run June 20-24 (one subject per day) and testing begins June 27.
Summer Physical Education – WCS will offer summer Physical Education with opportunities for students to earn their PE credit toward graduation prior to the school year. Summer PE will take place at WYHS from 8:00a – 12:00p Monday-Thursday from June 13 – July 8.
Summer Health – WCS will offer students an opportunity to earn their health credit (1/2). This will run from 8:00a – 12:00p Monday-Thursday from June 13 – July 8.
WCS/YMCA Summer Camp – This is the summer version of our TANF afterschool programming. Available to students/families that qualify for TANF funding. This program provides students with academic support in reading and math while helping to build leadership and social skills. The program also has a strong component of physical activity, health & fitness, and community involvement. This summer, we look to support students who will be attending Summer School by having on-site programming until 4 pm for families that need childcare.
- Monday – Friday (10 AM – 4 PM)
- June 13th – July 14th at Kae Avenue Elementary
- Signups/recruiting will occur with initial priority for students in Summer School. If space permits, programming will include any student from ages 5-13.
Downs Syndrome Association Summer Learning Academy – This is a partnership between the Downs Syndrome Association of Central Ohio and Whitehall City Schools to provide summer enrichment in reading, math, and social emotional learning for students with significant intellectual disabilities in grades 1-4.
- Four (4) days per week, Monday through Thursday
- June 13 to July 14
- 8:30 to 11:30, with supervised lunch after
- Eight (8) students, with an intervention specialist and two aides (provided by SCACO)
- Transportation for Whitehall students provided by WCS
WCS Preschool Extended School Year – WCS will offer summer intervention for those special needs preschool students who have just turned three, have failed to make expected progress on their IEP goals, or who risk significant regression without summer services. Services will be provided by an intervention specialist, an occupational therapist, a physical therapist and a speech language pathologist. ESY will occur at Kae Ave North.
- Preschool ESY will be July 25 - Aug 5 (8:30 AM-11:30 AM)
- IEP Teams will identify those students in need of ESY
Middle School Intervention - WCS will offer summer intervention for students with disabilities in grades 6-8 from June 13 – July 14, located at Rosemore Middle School. Students will be provided skill deficit instruction in areas specific to their Individualized Education Plan. Instructional time will run from 8:30 - 11:30, Monday - Thursday. (no school June 20 and July 4)
Free Lunch - June 13, 2022, to July 29, 2022 at Kae Avenue Elementary, Mon-Friday 11:00 am to 12:30 pm and WYHS from June 13-July 15, Mon-Friday 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Breakfast not available during the 2022 summer.
