In a special board meeting on Thursday, June 24th, the WCS Board of Education voted unanimously to adopt a resolution to appoint Dr. Wade Lucas as the superintendent pro tempore. The district’s current superintendent, Brian Hamler, is experiencing health issues that will likely require a significant period of recovery.
Dr. Lucas retired as the Superintendent for Olentangy Local School District in 2015. He currently serves as a Client Services Representative at the Educational Service Center (ESC) of Central Ohio. Dr. Lucas will serve the district on an as-needed, per diem basis, in order to maintain a full continuity of operations. Ohio Revised Code Section 3319.011 provides for the appointment of a superintendent pro tempore during such time as the superintendent of schools is incapacitated.
“Our thoughts continue to be with Brian and his family as they navigate through this difficult time,” said WCS Board President, Mike Adkins. “Our support remains with him to make a full recovery. At the same time, it is our duty to make sure the school district continues to operate in a seamless manner from an instruction and business standpoint. We’re very fortunate to have someone like Dr. Lucas step in and help us during this period.”
