WCS Community Mourns the Loss of Superintendent, Brian Hamler

Former WCS Superintendent, Brian Hamler, passed away on Tuesday, June 29th, from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Brian Hamler served as Whitehall City Schools’ eighth superintendent beginning in July of 2013.

Born and raised in Whitehall, Hamler graduated from Whitehall-Yearling High School in 1977. He went on to Capital University to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Physical Education in 1981. Hamler earned his Master of Arts in Educational Policy and Leadership from The Ohio State University in 1998. Over the course of his teaching and administrative career, he served Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools, Westerville City Schools, South-Western City Schools, and Whitehall City Schools.

Brian Hamler served the community of Whitehall in multiple capacities such as building principal, deputy superintendent, and superintendent. He made great strides and accomplished many things for the school district such as developing the Kae Avenue Early Literacy Campus, helping pass a bond and permanent improvement levy in 2018, and initiating a school-based health center with Heart of Ohio Family Health. He was a pillar of the Whitehall community and will be greatly missed by all.

Dr. Wade Lucas was appointed on June 24th by the WCS Board of Education to serve the district as the superintendent pro tempore.

A visitation for Brian Hamler will be held from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Monday, July 5th, 2021, at Schoedinger Funeral and Cremation in Gahanna (1051 E. Johnstown Rd.). Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 6th, 2021, at Schoedinger Funeral and Cremation in Gahanna (1051 E. Johnstown Rd.).
