WYHS Announces 2019 Hall of Fame Inductees
2019 WYHS HOF ClassThe Whitehall-Yearling High School Hall of Fame Selection Committee has announced their inductees for this year’s 2019 class.  Mr. Bruce Lowe (class of 1972), Mr. Marty Bannister (class of 1980), and Mr. Spencer Salyers (class of 1983) were selected out of a group of numerous, well-deserving nominees.

Nominees were submitted by the general public and then voted on by the selection committee.  To become eligible for the WYHS Hall of Fame, nominees had to have been an alum of Whitehall-Yearling for at least five years.  They also had to display accomplishments in one or more of the following categories: extra-curricular activities, humanitarian pursuits, education, business/career, and service to school/community.

• Bruce Lowe is an accomplished music producer, performer, composer, arranger, sound designer and engineer for records, television, commercials, and films. He has won five Grammys for records produced with Andrae Crouch. During his 40+ year career, Bruce has established professional partnerships and friendships with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Quincy Jones, Michael McDonald, and Billy Preston. In addition to continuing to work in his studio, Bruce’s current passion includes the Music Has Healing Power Foundation. Bruce is married and has two children.

• Marty Bannister is an exceptional broadcasting professional who brings extensive radio and television experience including 35 years of play-by-play, anchoring, hosting, and reporting. His career has included being a part of the on air broadcast team, or have performed the play-by-play, at 3 NCAA Division One National Championship football games, NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments (including the 2017 Women’s NCAA Division II Championship basketball game), Olympic Trial events, Triple-A Minor League baseball, Arena League professional football, collegiate hockey, wrestling, soccer, softball, volleyball, and baseball. Marty earned his associate’s degree in radio and television journalism from The American Schools in 1983.

• Spencer Salyers is a veteran officer with the Whitehall Police Department serving 27 years. He has 18 years of experience on the SWAT team and 20 as a hostage negotiator. As a former resource officer for 10 years with Whitehall City Schools, he was awarded the Friend to Education Award in 2007. Spencer is also the Founder and Executive Director of Get Behind the Badge, a charitable foundation to support police officers’ families. A veteran of the United States Army, Spencer has been awarded two medals of valor, the Distinguished Cross, and the Exceptional Service Award.

The Whitehall-Yearling High School Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 16th, at halftime of the varsity boys basketball game versus Bishop Hartly (gametime 7:30 PM).
